Who we are

KASP is operated by Online Learning System (onlinelearningsystem.net). This notice explains what we do with the information you give us when you use the KASP learning platform. It sits alongside the Privacy Policy on our main website.

Who can use KASP

KASP is provided to students aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly provide the service to, or collect information from, anyone under 16.

What we collect

• Your account details — name, email address and the courses you are enrolled on.
• Your work — the answers you type, the diagrams and structures you draw, and any files you submit.
• Your marks and feedback — the marks awarded, which mark scheme points you met, and the written feedback your teacher gives you.
• Your progress — which specification points you have covered and how you performed on each, which is what powers your "My Progress" analytics.

How your work is marked

Written and drawn answers on KASP are marked against a structured mark scheme. To help with this, your answer and the mark scheme may be sent to Anthropic, an artificial intelligence provider based in the United States, which produces a draft set of marks and comments.

A human teacher always reviews that draft before it reaches you. Your teacher can change or discard any part of it. No mark or decision about you is made solely by a machine.

Anthropic processes your answer only to produce that draft. They act as our processor under contract and do not use your work to train their own models.

Using your work to improve our marking

We keep a copy of marked work — your answer, the question, the mark scheme and the marking — so that we can develop and test our own marking models in future. This copy is pseudonymised: it is labelled with a random code rather than your name or email address, and is stored separately from the KASP platform.

Our lawful basis for this is legitimate interests — specifically, improving the accuracy, consistency and speed of the marking and feedback we give students. We have weighed this against your interests and consider the impact low, because the copy carries no name or contact details and is never used to make decisions about you.

We keep this copy indefinitely, because a marking model needs examples spanning many years and topics to be reliable.

You can object. If you tell us you do not want your work used this way, we will remove it from that copy and exclude your future work. This will not affect your marks, your feedback or your access to KASP in any way. Contact us using the details below.

Your progress analytics

Your marks and specification-point progress are used to show you and your teacher how you are doing. This information is not used to train any AI model.

Your rights

You have the right to see the information we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it erased, to restrict how we use it, to receive a copy of it, and — because we rely on legitimate interests for the marking-improvement copy — to object to that use at any time. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

Using KASP

KASP is an online chemistry learning platform for students aged 16 and over. You agree to use your account yourself and not to share your login with anyone else.

Your work

The work you submit remains yours. By using KASP you grant us permission to store your work, to mark it, and to keep a pseudonymised copy of marked work so we can develop and improve our marking, as described in the Privacy Notice. You may object to that last use at any time without affecting your marks or your access to the service.

AI-assisted marking

Some answers are marked with the assistance of artificial intelligence, which produces a draft that a human teacher reviews before it reaches you. Marks and feedback are issued on the teacher's authority, not the machine's. If you believe a mark is wrong, raise it with your teacher in the usual way.

Availability and accuracy

We aim to keep KASP available and its content accurate, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. Revision material and feedback are provided to support your study and are not a substitute for your school's teaching or the official specification.

Acceptable use

Do not attempt to disrupt the service, access other users' work, or submit unlawful or offensive material.

Changes

We may update these terms. If we make a significant change, you will be asked to review the updated version when you next sign in.
