Ionic Bonding and Metallic Bonding Topic 3A/3D
The Topic 3A/3D course on Edexcel International A Level Chemistry provides approximately 13 hours of guided learning. Students work through three recorded video lessons, 92 marks of auto-marked MCQ practice, 150 marks of teacher-marked written questions, and a personalised spec-point progress report.
How the 13 guided learning hours are worked out
Guided learning hours are calculated from the actual contents of the course, not estimated. Video time is counted at its true running length, MCQs at 1.5 minutes per question, written answers at 1.5 minutes per mark, and time is allowed for reading the feedback returned on every quiz.
| Component | Time |
|---|---|
| Virtual lesson video | 288 min |
| MCQ practice (92 questions × 1.5 min) | 138 min |
| MCQ feedback review (5 quizzes × 10 min) | 50 min |
| SAQ practice (150 marks × 1.5 min) | 225 min |
| SAQ feedback review (5 quizzes × 15 min) | 75 min |
| Total | 776 min ≈ 13 hours |
The three recorded lessons
The virtual lesson is delivered as three recorded lessons totalling 288 minutes. Students pause during exam-practice sections, attempt questions independently, then review the worked explanations and the mark-scheme approach.
| Lesson | Running time |
|---|---|
| 1. Ionic Bonding | 150 min |
| 2. Metallic Bonding | 66 min |
| 3. Solid Lattices | 72 min |

What you get in this course
Three recorded lessons covering Topic 3A and Topic 3D in full, with worked exam questions and mark-scheme strategy built into the teaching.
5 auto-marked quizzes of 15–20 questions each, with diagnostic feedback on every option. One attempt per quiz, so your scores track real progress.
5 written-answer quizzes (64 questions) marked by a chemistry specialist, with per-mark feedback returned the following Monday.
30 Edexcel IAL spec points are assessed in this course, every one of them in both question styles.
The lessons teach the chemistry and the exam wording. You learn what Edexcel actually rewards, not just the content.
A one-click PDF report shows your level on every spec point in colour-coded form.
