Lesson 2 of 2
Exam Practice
This virtual lesson works through exam-style questions on covalent bonding and molecular shapes, building the skills and confidence needed to perform under examination conditions.
The lesson works through a series of past paper and exam-style questions on covalent bonding and molecular geometry. Questions cover drawing accurate dot-and-cross diagrams, identifying bond types including dative covalent bonds, and applying knowledge of electronegativity and bond polarity to explain the behaviour of covalent substances.
VSEPR theory is applied to predict and explain molecular shapes and bond angles, including the effect of lone pairs on geometry. Examples include molecules and ions from the preceding lesson as well as unfamiliar analogous species, requiring reasoning independently from first principles.
Full worked solutions are provided throughout, with clear explanation of mark scheme logic and common errors to avoid. This session is designed to consolidate understanding and ensure answers can be communicated precisely and confidently in an exam setting.
